WWE WrestleMania 38: Charlotte Flair says she’s ‘the Ronda Rousey of WWE’

At WrestleMania 38 Charlotte Flair will put her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line against Ronda Rousey.

The match is set for WrestleMania Saturday on April 2, and despite what we’ve seen across WWE TV in the past few weeks, Charlotte has admitted she has nothing but respect for her opponent in Dallas. 

Speaking to Hot 97 Flair claims that she and Ronda share the same profile and impact across both WWE and MMA.

“What she did that entire year, I mean, she had, I mean, she faced The Bellas, Nia Jax, myself, Alexa Bliss. She performed with many different opponents at a high level. That doesn’t mean you necessarily have the best chemistry with everyone. But I think she went out there, and you know, she reminded me of Kurt Angle. I mean, just she picked it up so quickly. It’s all about instinct and she has the instinct, and that’s half the battle.

You can be in this business for a long time and never figure out instinct, in my opinion. I have nothing but respect for her. What she was able to do and the doors that she opened for women at that time, had never been done before. Had there not been a Ronda Rousey, I don’t think there would have been a women’s revolution… I like to say that I’m the Ronda of WWE and she is the Charlotte Flair of MMA.”

Their clash next month will be the third high-profile match to involve both Flair and Rousey. They first met in a one-on-one competition at Survivor Series before involved in the history making main event of WrestleMania 23 where the pair competed in the triple-threat main event with Becky Lynch – the first women’s match to ever headline a WrestleMania. Looking back, Flair believes she earned the former UFC Champion’s respect in that first clash in 2018.
