WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes to bring back popular title design?

Cody Rhodes made his sensational return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 earlier this month after six years away from the company.

Rhodes departed WWE in 2016, and went on to help form AEW in 2019, the closest thing to a competitor WWE has had since WCW in the 1990s.

But after his AEW deal expired in February of this year, the door was opened for Cody to make a shock return to Vince McMahon’s company.

In his promos and interviews since returning to WWE, Cody has outright stated that brought him back to the company.

Rhodes never won the WWE title during his first run with WWE, and his father, Dusty Rhodes, also never won the belt during his wrestling career.

So, Cody has stated numerous times this month that wanting to win the WWE title is one of the main reasons he decided to come back to the company.

Right now, WWE has one main title, the Unified WWE Universal Championship.

The belts were unified by Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38, but could WWE be about to introduce a new belt?

Taking to Instagram, Cody posted a picture of the old winged eagle version of the WWE Championship.

As such, fans have speculated that when he wins the WWE title, which seems almost certain to happen, he’ll bring back the classic title design.

In case you didn’t know, the winged eagle is one of WWE’s most popular belt designs, being held by the likes of Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart.

The belt, which you can see a full picture of below, was introduced in 1988, and was in circulation for almost a decade.

This won’t be the first time Cody has brought back a classic WWE title design, as in 2011, he reintroduced the classic design for the Intercontinental title.
