WSL: West Ham's Cissoko sent off for hitting Villa star as Konchesky faces allegations
A big win for West Ham in the Women’s Super League was overshadowed by scenes of chaos between both players and staff at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday.
Irons defender Hawa Cissoko was sent off during injury time following an altercation with Aston Villa’s Sarah Mayling.
West Ham manager Paul Conchesky was also sent down the tunnel after heightened emotions spilled out onto the touchline.
The Hammers were leading 2-1 as they entered the hefty seven minutes of injury time when the incident occurred.
In the 91st minute, Cissoko — who was driving the ball forward in her side’s half of the pitch — was challenged by Mayling and appeared to be pulled back from the ball.
The France international turned around and reacted immediately and swung her arm out towards Villa’s No.2.
Cissoko appeared to make contact with Mayling on two occasions before players from both teams waded in to diffuse the situation.
Referee Cheryl Foster did not hesitate and reached into her pocket to bring out the red card.
