Wrexham 1-1 Maidenhead: Dragons unlucky not to win despite early Mullin red card

Wrexham AFC were desperately unlucky not to take all three points at the Racecourse as an injury time equaliser gave visitors Maidenhead United a point.

Another bumper Racecourse crowd of 8,759 was present on a blustery day in North Wales and they were treated to an entertaining game in which Phil Parkinson's side probably deserved to emerge victorious despite playing 90 minutes with ten men due to the early dismissal of Paul Mullin.

The point means that Wrexham stay in sixth place in the National League with three tricky looking away league fixtures to come against Torquay United, Wealdstone and Chesterfield respectively.

The match was barely four minutes old when referee David Richardson deemed Paul Mullin's challenge on Josh Smile to be worthy of a straight red card and many expected the Dragons to face an uphill battle from there on.

It didn't pan out that way however as the early dismissal seemed to galvanise the home side and with the help of a vociferous backing from the passionate crowd, Wrexham were largely on the front foot.

The Reds deservedly took the lead in the 18th minute when a long throw into the box by club captain Ben Tozer was met by Aaron Hayden, who is proving to be a tremendous asset in both boxes for the Reds this season, and the big defender put the hosts in front.

It could have been 2-0 just moments later as good work from Jordan Davies and Max Cleworth resulted in wing back Reece Hall-Johnson firing over from close range.
