"Would be a big gamble" – Journalist drops huge Celtic dilemma facing Ange before Old Firm derby

Rushing back Kyoyo Furuhashi for the Old Firm derby this weekend would be a “big gamble” for Celtic, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Ange Postecoglou’s side travel to Ibrox to face Rangers in a potential title-decider on Sunday and could have their Japanese striker back in their ranks following more than three months out injured.

Having made a fine start to his Scottish Premiership career, the last few months have been extremely frustrating for the frontman.

The £4.95m-rated striker scored 16 goals in the first half of the campaign but suffered a hamstring problem early on in Celtic’s game at St Johnstone on Boxing Day which has forced him to miss the last three months.

However, speaking after the game against Ross County before the international break, Postecoglou confirmed that the striker is working towards a return to fitness.

Asked whether he could be fit for the Old Firm derby, the Australian said: “He’s been injured mate, he wasn’t kidnapped!

“He’s been here every day, he’s fine. He’s working towards it. I don’t want to put timelines on it.”

Meanwhile, Furuhashi revealed that he’s closing in on a return to action. “I am in very good condition, and I feel that I will be back soon,” he said. “I am spending my time hoping to get back to the pitch as soon as possible.”

But O’Rourke reckons that after so long out injured, a game of this magnitude might be a step too far.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it would be a big gamble to put Furuhashi into this cauldron of an atmosphere, such a red-hot, physical game, especially after being out for almost four months with his injury.”
