Worst football tackles: Plymouth and Accrington players sent off for the same tackle

There were bizarre scenes in League One on Saturday as two players were sent off for awful tackles on each other.

The incident occurred in the match been Plymouth Argyle and Accrington Stanley.

With league leaders Argyle 1-0 up in the first half of action, a loose ball spilled out of the midfield and into open ground around the centre circle.

Dann Scarr of Argyle and Seamus Conneely captain of Accrington both flew into reckless two-footed challenges as they attempted to win back possession.

However, both mistimed the tackle and ended up clattering into each other at full force before falling into heaps on the floor.

Referee Neil Hair decided to send both players off as a result of their reckless actions before awarding Argyle the free-kick.

It really was a seriously bizarre series of events, and you can check them out below.

The decision confused fans in the stadium as well as the players on the pitch.

Argle’s Twitter account wrote: “Scarr and Conneely are both sent off, in a decision which presumably satisfies nobody.”

Whilst Steve Schumacher, Argyle’s head coach, said after the game: “The game was kind of spoilt by the red cards. Both lads went for the ball and collided with each other.

“Common sense would be for the referee to book both, but he said he followed the letter of the law.”

With both teams down to 10 men and Argyle already with a goal advantage, the league leaders didn’t stutter and pressed on in the second half.

Goals from Sam Cosgrove and Ryan Hardie sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory for the side on the day, extending their impressive home record to seven straight victories.
