WorldSBK Most: Italy locks out WorldSSP Superpole

WorldSSP produced an all-Italian celebration at Most on Saturday morning as Evan Bros. Yamaha’s Lorenzo Baldassarri headed the field with a new Superpole lap record.

The rookie claimed his second Supersport pole position of the 2022 season, with impressive pace after setting a 1’34.952 to head countrymen Federico Caricasulo and Nicolo Bulega - on their respective Althea and Aruba liveried Ducatis. The trio were almost inseparable with just 0.182s covering the top three before a red flag brought an end to the dramatic qualifying.

Having enjoyed mostly dry track action, the rain began to fall with four minutes left on the clock bring a halt to proceedings. MV Agusta’s Niki Tuuli, having just returned from injury, suffered another crash at the session counted down but was up on his feet as the red flags came out.

Reigning champion Dominique Aegerter will line up for Saturday afternoon’s race action from fourth on the grid aboard his Ten Kate R1, heading the fellow Yamahas of GMT49’s Andy Verdoia and EAB’s Glenn van Straalen. Kawasaki’s Yari Montella (Puccetti) and Adrian Huertas (MTM) claimed row three alongside Orelac VerdNatura’s Raffaele De Rosa with replacement rider Valentin Debise completing the top ten for GMT94.
