WorldSBK Donington: Aegerter heads WorldSSP practice

Ten Kate Yamaha’s Dominique Aegerter once again showed his pure pace and quality by setting the fastest WorldSSP time of the opening day at Donington Park.

The reigning champion’s 1’30.939 lap was 0.224 seconds ahead of EAB Yamaha’s Glenn van Straalen after FP2, with official Ducati rider Nicolo Beluga just 1/1000th of a second behind in third place.

Perennial WorldSSP force Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha) was fourth fastest as multiple riders lost their ‘best’ times for yellow flag infringements, as well as a few for track limits penalties.

Early fast rider Raffaele De Rosa (Ducati Orelac VerdNatura) was fifth after the combined times were taken into account, with Althea’s Federico Caricasulo and fellow Italian rider, Lorenzo Baldassarri (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha), seventh.

The top Kawasaki rider, on his first visit to Donington, was Puccetti’s Can Öncü in eighth place while the two official Triumph riders, Hannes Soomer and Stefano Manzi completed the top ten.

Local rider and 2022 rookie, Tom Booth-Amos (Prodina Kawasaki), was 11th fastest, despite a fall without injury in FP2 while Benjamin Currie (Motozoo Puccetti Kawasaki) was 21st.
