World Cup qualifier: Zimbabwe captain laments missed opportunities to finish off Nigeria

Super Eagles

Warriors of Zimbabwe captain Marvelous Nakamba has lamented his side’s failure to convert the opportunities they had to beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles dropped more points after forcing Zimbabwe to a 1-1 draw in Sunday’s Group C 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda.

Walter Musona gave Zimbabwe the lead on 26 minutes with a long-range free-kick.

Kelechi Iheanacho, who came on before the start of the second half, equalised for the Eagles in 67 minutes.

Speaking after the game, Nakamba expressed disappointment that the Warriors failed to take the three points.

“We tried our best as a team, we had so many chances to finish the game but we couldn’t convert them,” the 29-year-old said in a video posted on Zimbabwe Football Association X handle.

“We just have to keep fighting, believing in ourselves. We are looking forward to the next match. The support has been good from our fans.”

The Super Eagles’ next opponent in the qualifiers is a home clash with South Africa in June 2024.

The South Africans currently lead Group C after they beat Benin Republic 2-1 in their first game.
