World Cup-bound Brosnan signs Everton contract extension

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan has extended her contract with Everton.

On the day the 27-year-old was included in Vera Pauw's 23-player World Cup squad, the Toffees have activated the option to extend the shotstopper’s contract by a year.

Brosnan joined the club after leaving West Ham in 2021 and has gone on to establish herself as Ireland’s number one.

"Last season was excellent, with a great group of girls and seeing the progress we made. I'm excited to be back next season and hopefully continue on that path and keep on improving," she said.

Brosnan made 16 appearances in all competitions for Everton last term, during which Brian Sorensen's team finished sixth in the Women's Super League.

Recently crowned the FAI senior women’s Players’ Player of the Year, Brosnan has been instrumental in helping Ireland qualify for this summer’s World Cup, saving a Caroline Weir penalty in the 1-0 win over Scotland that clinched their place in Australia and New Zealand.

The Irish squad departs from Brisbane next week where they will set up camp ahead of their massive World Cup group opener on 20 July against Australia at the 83,500-capacity Accor Stadium in Sydney, a match that has now sold out.
