World Athletics Championships: Irish in action on Day 4
Sarah Lavin will hope to repeat her recent good form in the 100 metre hurdles, while the focus of attention will be Ciara Mageean's performance in the women's 1500m final.
The Portaferry woman eased into the decider at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest with an assured semi-final performance on Sunday.
Having avoided trouble throughout the opening half of the race, the European silver medallist started to make her way through the field before kicking on midway around the final round.
She finished third in a time of 4:02.70, with Kenya's Nelly Chepchirchir taking first place.
Mageean goes into the final ranked ninth on her season's best of 3:56.63, while all but two of her rivals in the final have broken four minutes this season, with gold medal favourite Faith Kipyegon boasting a personal best of 3:49.11.
Limerick sprint hurdler Lavin set her fifth PB in six days earlier this month and will have her sights set on Derval O'Rourke's national record of 12.65. She is the first Irish competitor in action at 5.40pm.
Mark English has endured an injury-hit season, but having won bronze in last year's European outdoors in Munich, his fourth major championship podium finish, the Donegal man will be looking to advance to Thursday's 800m semi-finals.
Joining him in the event is John Fitzsimons, whose season's best is 1:45.77, just over a tenth of a second outside his PB.
The newly crowned national champion is drawn in the third of the 800m heats.
