Women's Premier Division wrap: Peamount stay nine clear

Ellen Dolan scored a hat-trick as Peamount United maintained their concerted push for the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division title with a 5-0 home win over bottom-of-the-table Cork City on Saturday.

Dolan opened the scoring ten minutes before the break, and then quickly added another goal for the hosts.

Avril Brierley and Sadhbh Doyle extended the advantage in the second half, before Dolan completed her treble in the closing stages.

The result keeps Peamount nine points clear of reigning league champions Shelbourne, who have been involved in Champions League qualification action over this past week, as well as Shamrock Rovers, who are both level on points and have a game in hand on the leaders.

Shamrock Rovers were 4-0 winners over Sligo Rovers with Aine O'Gorman, who recently retired from international duty with the Republic of Ireland after the FIFA Women's World Cup, scoring twice in the first half.

Lia O'Leary and Scarlett Heron scored further goals for the Hoops in the second half.

Fourth-place Galway United were 2-0 winners at home to DLR Waves thanks to early goals from Isabella Beletic and Eve Dossen, while Bohemians stay fifth despite a 5-0 loss at last season's league and cup runners-up Athlone Town.

Isabel Ryan, Gillian Keenan, Maddison Gibson, Dana Scheriff and Emma McGrath netted the Athlone goals, with the midlanders seventh.

Ahead of them in sixth are Wexford Youths, who continued their recent revival with a 4-0 win over visiting Treaty United.

The Limerick side had Sarah Power sent off after just seven minutes and Wexford took full advantage as Aoibheann Clancy and Ciara Rossiter put them 2-0 in front by half-time, before Kylie Murphy scored a brace after the hour mark.
