Woman seriously injured after men walk up and punch her in horrific street attack

A woman was viciously attacked while walking with a friend early on Sunday morning.

The pair had been walking down Rochdale Road in Royton at around 2am together on October 27, Greater Manchester Police said. They were then approached by a group of three to four men.

Following this, an 'altercation' began in which a 'punch was thrown'. This left the woman with 'severe injuries' and she was rushed to hospital.

A group of between three and four men was later seen fleeing the area, GMP said. They added that they had been running towards Rochdale when last seen.

As of today (October 29), the woman remains in hospital receiving treatment for her injuries. GMP has now issued an appeal for anyone who may have information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Kate Dawson, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “This shocking attack has left a woman in hospital with severe injuries, for which she is still being assessed. No-one should have to endure horrific incidents like this and we are investigating all aspects as we continue our enquiries.

“I would urge anyone with any information to please get in touch with us. This could be CCTV, mobile phone, dashcam, or doorbell footage that was captured from around the time of the incident. Even small information or detail could greatly benefit our work.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via 101 or our Live Chat service at gmp.police.uk, quoting log number 3419 of 27/10/24.

Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
