Woman rushed to hospital in serious condition after house fire in Rochdale

A woman was taken to hospital after a fire ripped through a house in Rochdale.

Six fire engines were called to Wesley Close in Smallbridge at around 8am on Saturday morning (February 19) following reports of a property on fire.

A two-storey house was alight at the time fire crews arrived at the scene.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire with a hose reel and an aerial platform.

Crime Scene Investigators from Greater Manchester Police and search dogs from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.

Greater Manchester Police has now said a woman was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition following the fire.

Three teenage girls who were also at the property at the time were unharmed.

Police said while enquiries are ongoing, the fire is not thought to be suspicious.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “At around 8am yesterday morning (19 February), emergency services were called to a report of a fire at an address on Wesley Close, Rochdale.

“The road was closed as a precaution while emergency services worked at the scene. A woman was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“Three teenage girls who were at the address at the time of the fire were unharmed.

“Enquiries are ongoing. The incident is believed to be non-suspicious.”
