Woman rushed to hospital after being hit by a bus in the Northern Quarter

A woman was rushed to hospital after being hit by a bus in the Northern Quarter.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the smash at the junction of Oldham Street and Dale Street at around 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday). Police said a woman was treated by paramedics at the scene.

She was then taken to hospital. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police this morning said the woman's condition is 'unknown'.

The M.E.N understands her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. After the crash, police officers cordoned off a stretch of the busy road for a number of hours.

An air ambulance also landed on a nearby multi-storey car park. Witnesses described how people rushed to help the woman.

A fire engine was at the scene 'within 90 seconds', one eyewitness said. They said: "I was walking along the other side of the road at the time. It seemed a very bad collision.

"Quite a few people rushed into the road to help the person. Luckily there was a fire engine just down the road and an ambulance not far away too.

"I ran down the road to flag down an ambulance that was parked there and think the fire engine must’ve gone up within 90 seconds or so. It all happened very quickly and the road was very busy at the time."

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Oldham Street, Manchester city centre, at around 4:30pm on 28 June 2023 to reports a pedestrian had been in collision with a bus.

"A woman was treated at the scene and has been taken to hospital, where her condition is unknown."
