Woman jailed for life for murdering mum's best mate

A woman who murdered her mother’s neighbour by stabbing him in the chest has been jailed for life. She took a knife from a kitchen drawer and stabbed the victim near the heart, leaving him with unsurvivable injuries.

Rebecca Press, 31, killed Marc Ash at her mother’s flat in New Tredegar, Caerphilly, on July 17 last year. She had become upset after finding out her ex boyfriend had been cheating on her, but when Mr Ash, 57, tried to calm her down she attacked him.

I’ve just murdered someone, please phone me now. F*** (screams). I’ve just murdered someone”.

Press initially denied murder, claiming Mr Ash was aggressive and she had acted in self defence, but she changed her plea to guilty during her trial at Cardiff Crown Court. The Recorder of Cardiff, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke sentenced Press to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 20 years.

The judge said: "Mr Ash tried to calm you down and you raised your knife and
