Wolves 'resigned' to losing £58k-a-week star at Molineux

Wolves are “resigned” to losing midfielder Ruben Neves this summer, claims talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Portugal international hinted at the end of last season that it could be time to try something different, and Crook says there is an acceptance at Molineux that now may be the time to sell.

According to The Sun, Wolves want to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Joao Palhinha as a replacement for Neves, who is waiting for a top European side to make a suitable bid for him.

However, with that yet to arrive, the process of bringing the Wolves star’s successor in has slowed down, while Fulham’s interest has also complicated things, the same outlet states.

Last week, SPORT reported that Barcelona have made signing Neves a priority this transfer window, so that could be an option for the 25-year-old.

However, with finances once again proving to be a problem for the Spanish side, it could be a while before they are able to make a serious offer for him, which will not help Bruno Lage as he tries to prepare for life after Neves.

Crook has told GIVEMESPORT that Wolves are becoming more open to the idea of selling Neves because he is likely to generate a lot of money that can be reinvested in the squad.

Speaking to GMS, the talkSPORT reporter said: “I think they’re going to lose Ruben Neves; they’re resigned to that.

“They’re going to get decent money, and I think they’re almost open to it because the owners want them to be self-sufficient, so they’re not just going to pump money in. If they sell Neves, it will allow them to sign a couple of players – Palhinha would be one.”
