Aston Villa: Gerrard 'could look' at bringing £35m midfielder to Villa Park

Aston Villa could potentially look into signing Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, believes Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

While he does not think there is too much in the links right now, Taylor is not ruling out the Midlands club making a move for the 28-year-old.

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are considering a swoop for Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

The above comes after the Daily Mirror claimed that Villa and West Ham had been put on “red alert” following Liverpool’s decision to sell the Englishman.

Last season, Oxlade-Chamberlain made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Reds, but only nine of those were starts in the Premier League, so it would not be a surprise if he pushed for a move.

From Liverpool’s perspective, this could be their last chance to make some money from their £35m signing, who could run down his contract and leave for free next year when his contract expires.

Taylor thinks Oxlade-Chamberlain is a name Villa could consider this window, though the Daily Express journalist is not too sure about the current links and believes that may just be Liverpool trying to ramp up interest in their player.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “I do think that’s one they could potentially look at, but I don’t think there’s anything concrete in any links to Oxlade-Chamberlain at the moment, to be honest. I think it is very much premature and maybe Liverpool trying to drive up interest in the player.”

United would obviously be an appealing option for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who would get the chance to continue playing at a top six club and compete in Europe.
