Wolves receive Duje Caleta-Car transfer update as Bruno Lage awaits Man Utd development

Here are your latest Wolves headlines from BirminghamLive...

Marseille are willing to listen to offers for defender Duje Caleta-Car this summer after rejecting Wolverhampton Wanderers’ advances last year.

Croatia international Caleta-Car, 25, was targeted by Wolves during Bruno Lage’s first transfer window as head coach. A bid of £13 million was reportedly rejected by Marseille.

Caleta-Car still featured prominently under Jorge Sampaoli at the Stade Velodrome last season. He made 26 appearances for Marseille as they finished second in Ligue 1, behind mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain.

According to L’Equipe, Marseille are intent on selling Caleta-Car this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer at the end of his contract next year. Marseille recently lost Boubacar Kamara - who was also a target for Wolves last year - on a free transfer to Aston Villa.

Caleta-Car was reluctant to leave France last summer when Wolves came calling. Wolves eventually admitted defeat in their pursuit, but they haven’t been able to sign an alternative central defender.

Now that Romain Saiss has departed, Wolves’ need for a new defender has increased. Caleta-Car is available and would be within Wolves’ price range - but the defender would need to change his stance on a move to England.

Manchester United are set to agree a deal with Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong - and it should finally resolve the future of Ruben Neves.

United have chased de Jong throughout the summer and reports now suggest a deal worth up to €75million (£65m) is close to being agreed with Barcelona. Discussions between the two clubs over de Jong, 25, are said to be ‘progressing positively’.

And the de Jong deal could have a knock-on effect for Wolves and Neves.
