Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has hinted that he wants to stay at Molineux next season despite interest from other Premier League clubs.

Speaking to Wolves TV (via Liverpool Echo), the player was asked what his main focus was at the moment, to which he responded: “Getting back fit, trying to prove to the manager why I should be here and why I want to play every week.”

It’s great news given that many clubs have shown interest in signing him this summer after an impressive spell on loan in the Championship last season at Sheffield United.

Gibbs-White has been linked with both Everton and Nottingham Forest, with the former having a £25m bid rejected by the Old Gold who want to keep hold of their academy graduate.

Whilst Wolves have been reluctant to sell it’s not been totally clear where Gibbs-White stood on the issue, and with both the sporting director at Everton Kevin Thelwell and manager at Forest Steve Cooper having worked with the player before, there was a real risk of him leaving.

So this latest news that the 22-year-old is seemingly focused on proving himself will excite manager Lage. His record for the Blades last season was outstanding – he was directly involved in 20 goals in 35 Championship games.

The Englishman has 46 top-flight appearances under his belt at Molineux but he’s never shown that kind of form. Thus, if he can step up and show it next season then he will have a real future at the club.

It could also mean that Lage won’t have to sign another midfielder should the club lose their star man Ruben Neves. Manchester United recently been linked with the Portuguese maestro should their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong fail, and it’s a move that is looking more likely.
