Wolves line up 'very ambitious' Molineux targets with 'quality' £50.4m duo

Wolverhampton Wanderers are showing ambition by setting their sights on tempting ‘quality’ Sporting duo Joao Palhinha and Matheus Nunes to Molineux, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Head coach Bruno Lage will be handed the opportunity to freshen up his Wolves squad when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

According to The Athletic, Wolves are in the market to potentially recruit two central midfielders, with Sporting pair Palhinha and Nunes being included on Lage’s shortlist of potential arrivals.

The report suggests Lage has informed chairman Jeff Shi and the Molineux recruitment team of the profile of players he wants to link-up with his existing squad amid doubts over Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho’s respective futures.

Barcelona are reportedly targeting a summer deal for Neves, with talks having already been held between the Catalan giants and the midfielder’s intermediaries.

Manchester United and Arsenal pursued the Portuguese star during the January transfer window, while Juventus are understood to be keen on luring him to Serie A.

As things stand, Moutinho is nearing the end of his Molineux career as his £100,000-per-week contract is set to expire in the summer.

O’Rourke believes Palhinha and Nunes would be eye-catching additions to Lage’s squad and Wolves have already lodged their interest due to wanting to beat other interested parties to the punch.
