Wolves: 'Enhanced' chances of Molineux deal for 'highly-rated' £27m star

Wolverhampton Wanderers stand a good chance of attracting Matheus Nunes to Molineux because of the amount of Portuguese stars already on the West Midlands club’s books, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Wolves have enjoyed a positive first season under the tutelage of Bruno Lage, who was appointed as the Premier League side’s head coach last summer, but he could look to freshen up his squad when the transfer window reopens for business.

According to The Athletic, Sporting ace Nunes has been added to Lage’s shortlist of targets after setting his sights on acquiring two central midfielders.

The report suggests Lage has informed chairman Jeff Shi and the recruitment team of the profile of players he wants to bring to the club, with Nunes fitting the bill.

Nunes clearly has plenty of talent and even gained high praise from Pep Guardiola as the Manchester City boss claimed the 23-year-old is ‘one of the best players in the world today’.

According to Portuguese media outlet A Bola, via the Manchester Evening News, Guardiola’s admiration may hamper Wolves’ hopes of luring Nunes to Molineux.

That is because it is understood that Nunes is eager to secure a switch to the Etihad Stadium rather than heading to Wolves.

O’Rourke believes the fact that Wolves currently have a host of Portuguese stars on their books could be enough to persuade Nunes to join them in the West Midlands.
