Wolves could be 'flattered' by interest in 'exciting' £38m star at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers could be flattered by reported interest from Liverpool in midfielder Matheus Nunes, after only completing a deal for the Portuguese in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Bruno Lage bolstered his squad by spending more than £120 million on new recruits but his most high-profile signing is already catching the eye.

Wolves completed the signing of the 23-year-old on a five-year deal in August after a £38 million fee was agreed with Sporting Lisbon.

Nunes said he was ‘very happy’ to have made the move to Molineux while Wolves chairman, Jeff Shi, described his new addition as ‘exciting’ and one of the best young players in the world.

Liverpool were among the sides interested in signing the nine-cap Portugal international but eventually pulled out of the race.

However, the Reds have not given up on eventually acquiring their former target. It is understood that they could move for Nunes next summer if their pursuit of Jude Bellingham falls short.

O’Rourke believes that it is inevitable that the biggest clubs in the world will take an interest in exciting young players.

The journalist argues that Wolves may even be flattered that Liverpool have their summer signing on their radar.

When asked about interest in Nunes, O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it’s just the way it is. If you’ve got top players, it’s going to be top clubs looking at them and there will always be speculation about. I’m sure Bruno Lage is pretty well accustomed to it now, having had to deal with the continued speculation around Ruben Neves. But he could take it as flattering that your players are attracting interest from some of these top clubs as well.”

As things stand, there is not much for the West
