Wolves 'closing in' on transfer move that could create Matheus Nunes pathway

Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest are reportedly "closing in" on a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

Gibbs-White has returned from his successful loan with Sheffield United and will now decide on his future at Wolves this summer. The attacking midfielder helped the Blades reach the play-offs with 12 goals and a further 10 assists in 37 matches, but missed out on promotion after losing to Forest.

The Reds went onto earn promotion after defeating Huddersfield Town at Wembley in May and Gibbs-White has been a regular name in the rumour mill linking players to Steve Cooper's men. They have recently just broke their club record transfer fee (£17.5m) to lure Taiwo Awoniyi to the midlands from German side Union Berlin and are set to add to the former Liverpool man.

With just over a month until the start of the 2022/23 season, The Sun have reported that Forest are 'closing in' on a double deal to sign Gibbs-White and Liverpool right-back Neco Williams. According to journalist Alan Nixon, the 22-year-old is due to give Bruno Lage an answer on his future and £20million may be enough for Wolves to "reluctantly" accept.

Forest boss Cooper knows both players well after signing Gibbs-White when in charge at Swansea City in 2020 and Williams during his time in Liverpool's academy. Gibbs-White appeared only six times for Cooper after battling a foot injury, scoring once and assisting another.

The move would add extra funds for Lage to enter the transfer market and make his first move in improving his Wolves squad. So far, the Wanderers are yet to confirm any additions despite allowing Romain Saiss, John
