Wolves backed to tip the balance in Premier League title race between Liverpool and Man City

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been identified as one of two teams that could realistically scupper Manchester City's chances of retaining the Premier League title.

The champions are gunning for their fourth title in five seasons this term, but are locked in a tense battle with Liverpool for top spot. This season is reminiscent of the 2018/19 title race when both sides won their last nine matches with Man City pipping it by a point.

The same gap exists between the teams as we enter the final four games with neither side looking likely to drop points between here and the end of the season. Wolves, though, are being backed to tip the balance.

Bruno Lage's men face City next week as part of the run-in in what is a daunting task for the West midlands outfit. But former Birmingham City captain Kenny Cunningham believes that they have the tools to cause Pep Guardiola's side problems.

Speaking to Off The Ball, the Irishman says that if any team is to derail City's title defence, it will be either Wolves or West Ham. "I've felt for a while, for City it's West Ham away and Wolves away [that are the most important games in the title race]," he said.

"I know Wolves gave up a few goals the other day against Brighton and I was a bit critical of them. But generally speaking, defensively they're solid with their back five and their screen in front.

"They can hurt you on counter attacks. They've got real speed and dynamism in that speed. Podence up top. Neto in particular can really get at you on the counter.

"They're the two games for me that City need to be right at it."
