Wolves 'agreed terms' with Brazilian star before transfer was 'blocked'

Wolverhampton Wanderers were said to be in "advanced talks" to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Pedrinho before the move was blocked by the Premier League, according to reports.

Pedrinho joined the Ukrainian side last summer from Benfica for 18 million euros. He consequently signed a five-year contract with the club. Following the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the 23-year-old has had his contract suspended until June.

According to Brazilian news outlet GOAL, Shakhtar has given him a deadline to sign for another club until April 7. Pedrinho was part of Corinthians academy for seven seasons before joining Benfica and spending time with current Wolves boss Bruno Lage.

Given his current situation, his former club and Sao Paulo have expressed their interest in the player. However, it has also been reported that he will prefer to remain in Europe for financial reasons - with European clubs being more likely to be able to cover their players' salaries.

GOAL reported in March that Wolves and Pedrinho had agreed terms. It read: "The 23-year-old is of interest to Corinthians and Sao Paulo. Although Pedrinho has already been given a contract by Wolves to play in the Premier League until June 2022."

Pedrinho's agent Will Dantas, told Canal do Nicola on YouTube: "Pedrinho's situation will be decided in June. We will wait for the summer transfer window to open in Europe. Pedrinho had the opportunity to go to England.

"FIFA had authorised the registration and everything had been agreed but the Premier League blocked the potential move [due to it being outside of the transfer and registration window]."
