Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Marcal has been pictured with Botafogo’s Rafael Da Silva amid claims he is set to return to Brazil in the summer.

Marcal is out of contract at Molineux in June and reports in Brazil claim he is close to agreeing a free transfer to Botafogo. The 33-year-old joined Wolves from Lyon two years ago to help the club fill the void left by Jonny Castro Otto’s long-term knee injury.

However, now that Jonny has returned to full fitness, Bruno Lage might allow Marcal to leave at the end of his contract. Wolves also have the talented Rayan Ait-Nouri at left-back, while Lage has been impressed by academy graduate Ryan Giles - who has spent the second half of the season on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

After more than a decade in Europe, Marcal could return to Brazil to wind down his career. Rio de Janeiro club Botafogo are favourites to land him, according to Globo Esporte.

And Marcal - who, along with the rest of the Wolves squad, has been given some time off this week - has been pictured with Botafogo right-back Da Silva. Ex-Manchester United man Da Silva posted a picture on Instagram of Marcal with the caption: “Look who came to visit me… From England to Rio.”

Adama Traore's future is up in the air with Barcelona currently unwilling to purchase him permanently from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
