Wolves: 56 y/o manager target 'could be good fit' at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers managerial target Julen Lopetegui would be ‘a good fit’ and will be confident of turning the tide if he is handed the Molineux reins, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Chairman Jeff Shi has been on the lookout for a new boss since sacking head coach Bruno Lage last week.

According to Sky Sports, Wolves are expected to hold talks with Lopetegui over the vacant head coach role this weekend.

The report suggests the 56-year-old, who has previously bossed the likes of Spain and Real Madrid, is represented by Jorge Mendes – a close associate of the Premier League club’s ownership and is the agent of several Molineux stars.

It is understood that Lopetegui has been identified as Wolves’ top target to replace Lage at the helm after a shortlist was compiled by the hierarchy.

The West Midlands outfit have been boosted by the fact the Spaniard was axed by La Liga giants Sevilla in midweek, following their Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund, meaning they will not need to pay a compensation fee to secure his services.

However, respected journalist Guillem Balague has revealed that Lopetegui is not guaranteed to take over at Molineux.

Lopetegui has previously admitted that he was close to being appointed as Wolves’ head coach in 2016, only for the Spain job to come his way, so Jones feels he would be open to succeeding Lage.

The journalist believes the out-of-work manager would be confident of lifting Wanderers, who are currently languishing in the Premier League’s relegation zone, away from the bottom three.
