Wolff happy to see team boss parade ditched for Miami

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is pleased to see the scrapping of a planned team boss parade ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

Pre-race parades are usually reserved for the absolute stars of the show: the drivers. But, at the upcoming and inaugural Miami Grand Prix, there were plans for all 10 respective team bosses to go on a parade lap as well.

However, that plan has quickly been quashed and Wolff is happy to see the back of it.

“I’d rather avoid [the parade],” Wolff said, as quoted by The Express.

“I don’t think that team principals or team owners should be waving at the fans. I love the fans but it should be the drivers who are in the forefront. They are the athlete, the gladiators in the machines, and not any of us.”

The fact there was even a plan for a team principal parade provides more firm evidence of just how much Formula 1 has continue to grow under the ownership of Liberty Media.

So while Wolff was dismissive of the idea itself, he is still very much enjoying the amount of exposure Formula 1 has these days.

“The media attention is something which we need to be very grateful for,” he said.

“The sport is booming, the audiences are going up, commercial revenue is going up and we need to have the utmost effort to satisfy the demands of the media and satisfy the demands of the fans.

“I find that great and something that I am proud of.”

Prior to Wolff’s comments, Daniel Ricciardo had also laughed at the idea of a team principal parade.

“I don’t want to be mean to the team principals,” Ricciardo said, as quoted by MotorLat.
