Woking 3 Maidstone United 1 match report: Sam Corne opens the scoring but Cards hit back

Maidstone led high-flying Woking but conceded three times in the second half to leave Kingfield empty-handed.

Sam Corne - the visitors’ best player - gave Hakan Hayrettin’s side a deserved lead.

But after losing keeper Ryan Sandford to a shoulder injury before the break, goals from Rohan Ince, Rhys Browne and Jim Kellermann gave the Cards the points.

Roarie Deacon captained the Stones in the absence of Jerome Binnom-Williams, who missed out through illness, with Ryan Galvin taking his place at left-back.

Woking, refreshed after a two-week break and sitting fourth in the National League under ex-Stevenage and Yeovil boss Darren Sarrl, made a bright start in the early kick-off.

They opened up the Stones defence in the first minute but there was nobody at the far post to convert Jermaine Anderson’s ball across the face of goal.

Reece Grego-Cox saw a deflected strike, after a swift counter-attack, go just past the post soon after.

The same man brought a flying save out of Sandford, with his effort from Anderson’s lay-off inside the box bound for the top corner.

Hayrettin’s men probably had the best chance of the half when Dominic Odusanya’s interception in midfield gave Jack Barham the chance to run at goal.

The Stones striker made good progress before squaring to Corne but keeper Craig Ross made the save.

Ross may have saved that strike but Corne beat him with his next effort on goal as Maidstone took a 34th-minute lead.

A poor ball out defence was picked up Regan Booty and he fed Corne, whose cracking low drive from 20 yards seemed to take Ross by surprise as it flew in off the keeper.
