Witness recounts 'heroic' attempt to save woman, 22, killed in horror Withington crash

An eyewitness to the fatal car crash in Withington on Friday (May 31), which claimed the life of a 22-year-old female pedestrian, has praised the 'heroic' efforts of two people who rushed to her aid.

The 22-year-old woman was hit by a car on Mauldeth Road West at around 11.50am on Friday and was taken to hospital. Despite the efforts of two passersby and large numbers of paramedics, the woman sadly died later in hospital.

Two young men, 18 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the crash, with one released with no further action and the other bailed pending further investigation. Greater Manchester Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and help with their inquiries into the incident.

A couple who live on the road have praised the "heroic" actions of those who tried to save the woman's life. Eyewitness Emily said: "I was working and I remember seeing her cross the road, but I didn't see what happened. I had a work call and when I came off the call, that's when I saw her."

Moments later, two people that looked like NHS staff to Emily "stopped pretty quickly." Immediately administering first aid, Emily's husband Steve said they had done "an epic job trying to save her life."

While the yet un-named 22-year-old pedestrian lay in the street, the pair looked after her until police officers arrived. Soon after, paramedics, an ambulance, and an air ambulance also descended on Mauldeth Road West to help the woman. Emily said: "For about 45 minutes they were all working to keep her alive."

Reflecting on the horrific incident, she said: "The people who stopped to help her are real heroes, it
