Wishaw taekwondo club claim host of medals as starlet lands first GB Development Team win

Vision Taekwondo Club has been in fine form recently with a host of medal wins at their first event of the year and a Great Britain Development Team outing for one of their members.

The Wishaw-based outfit were in Barnsley on February 25 for the Scorpion Taekwondo 1-to-1 Competition and they did not disappoint with six gold medals and five silvers to show for their efforts.

Gold medallists were Corey Horswell, Jordan Horswell, Sophia Bett, Jay Rankin, Siobhan Coe and Brooke Russell, while Kaila Sloan, Kirsty Marshall, Rachel Cringles, Paige Simpson and Erik Radulescu all took home silver.

Club coach Craig Eden said: “This was a great start to our year with some top performances.

“It was perfect preparation for our team of six heading to the Belgium Open this month.”

Meanwhile, over the weekend of March 2-3, club starlet Ava Bett represented the GB Development Team for the first time at her first European Ranking event of the year, the Bulgarian Open.

She won bronze in the Junior Female Under 59kg category, defeating opponents from Greece and Ukraine before narrowly losing her semi final against Serbia.

Ava also spent a week in Croatia with the GB team prior to the event.

Craig added: “Winning this medal is a fantastic start to the year. We’re delighted with Ava’s displays against some of the best juniors in Europe.

“She will continue her international schedule at the Belgium Open with her club-mates.”
