Wishaw earn Scottish Junior Cup progress with first win of the season

David Dunn was delighted with the manner in which Wishaw ground out their first win of the season and booked their place in round two of the Scottish Junior Cup.

The Beltane Park boss has seen his side blow leads in the league this season amid a host of injuries to his squad.

And when Bridge of Don pulled a goal back late on during Saturday’s clash after a Kieran Brannan brace put Wishaw 2-0 up, Dunn was relieved to see his players get over the line for a 2-1 victory.

He said: “That’s our first win so it’s good to get that monkey off our back with all the things that have gone wrong for us so far with injuries and things.

"If I am being a wee bit negative, I felt we should have won it more convincingly.

“We had a lot of missed chances and when they scored with 10 minutes to go, they just threw everything at us.

“But one thing that pleased me was the way we finished the game because it will be playing on their minds that we’ve lost games and lost leads.

“Having not won this season, that was probably the best way for us to do it, hanging in and throwing bodies on the line. So I’m delighted with the performance, hopefully we’ll kick on.”

Their reward is a home tie with Second Division rivals Maybole in round two on September 24.

Dunn added: “It’s a home tie and one we’ll look to try and win, to hopefully get a good wee run in the cup.”

Meanwhile, Dunn has added midfielder Warren Greenfell to his squad after he joined from Cambuslang Rangers.

Greenfell had an unexpected debut as Wishaw’s injury woes continued.

Dunn explained: “It was an eventful Saturday as always with us.

“Stevie McGurgan pulled his hamstring after eight minutes and then Neilly Reynolds fell on his wrist and dislocated it.
