Winners to get N1m as Lagos Scrabble Classics hold Sept 28

Organisers of this year’s Lekki Scrabble Classics have announced that the event will hold on September 28 and 29, at the Peninsula Hotel, Lagos. They have also announced a N1 million prize money for the winner of the classics.

The Lekki Scrabble Classics have been at the forefront of pushing the spikes high and spreading quality in its strategic contribution to Scrabble development in Nigeria and globally.

At this year’s championship, players are expected to compete in over 18 rounds of games in two main categories of A and B. Spot prizes, gifts, and other consolation rewards will be received by deserving participants at the end.

Category A will accommodate players with ratings of 1,300 and above, while those who fall into ratings from 0-1,299 will jostle for winnings in Category B.

This year’s edition has been certified by the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) and the continent’s governing body, the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA).

Speaking ahead of the event, the president of the Lekki Scrabble Club, Samuel Anikoh, described the classics as the flagship tournament of the club, which he also described as the most prestigious Scrabble club in Nigeria.

“You will be pleased to find a more impressive tournament organised by a scrabble club. The event has evolved over the last few years, and this year boasts a N1 million star prize in the Division A category.

“Of course the classy, comfortable and serene environment for the event will make playing scrabble a delight for all the participants, with breakfast and lunch provided. I can assure you that’s not something you can get anywhere else,” he said.
