Winner the perfect birthday present for Dumbarton talisman Tony Wallace

Tony Wallace celebrated his birthday by signing a new deal at Dumbarton – and then grabbing the winner against Stranraer 24 hours later.

The 33-year-old attacker’s 12th of the season secured a 2-1 success against Stranraer on Saturday, and it was the perfect present for Tony – after a birthday to forget.

He laughed: “It’s been a good week football-wise, but not otherwise. I put the wrong fuel in my work van and ended up stuck for five hours waiting for it to get fixed!

“I thought I was having a bad week but thankfully it’s ended up being alright. Maybe I’ll need to do that every week now.

“I was delighted to get the contract sorted early. I’ve loved it since I came back to the club.

“Even when I’m not playing I’m just loving being involved at the club. The boys are great, the training is great and it feels like everything is falling for me in front of goal.

“It gives me security for the new season now, and will let me focus on winning without having to worry about anything else.”

And Tony hopes that victory on Saturday can kickstart Sons’ promotion campaign, as he looks for back-to-back playoff successes – and aims to make more memories as a Sons player.

He continued: “At Annan it was the same. We were playing well and not getting the results. We were seventh or eighth at Christmas time.

“It’s a bit bizarre. Although we’ve not been winning, we haven’t been playing all that badly. We’re not taking chances and making mistakes at the back.

“We know we’re playing well we just needed something to change slightly for us to go on a run. And hopefully that’s now what’s happened
