Win was never in doubt for St Cuthbert Wanderers against Nithsdale Wanderers

Victory was never in doubt for St Cuthbert Wanderers boss Josh Gardner on Saturday.

The Kirkcudbright side cruised to a 4-0 win against Nithsdale Wanderers for their first victory in four games.

And Gardner said: “At no point did I feel in any danger of losing.

“We were pretty dominant in the first half – we hit the bar and it came down and bounced, I’m not sure if it was behind the line, but we probably should have been scoring that.

“We had another couple of wee chances as well and went in with a deserved lead at half-time.

“Just on the stroke of half-time, Nithsdale got reduced to 10 men. When we came out it was about managing the game and putting it to bed as quickly as possible.

“We got the second goal 10 minutes in and we were a wee bit slack for a period, we maybe took our foot off the gas.

“A few words from the side and we got the third and fourth and probably should have got the fifth.

“It was a convincing win and a clean sheet as well, which I was pleased with as we’ve not had a lot of them.”

Saints edged in front just before the break when Kane Paton found the back of the net, the home side then having Ian Torrance sent off.

Saints took full advantage of the extra man with Cammy Shaw scoring their second 10 minutes into the second half.

Late on Keelan Broanan added the third before Paton rounded off the scoring.

Gardner added: “You can never really relax on a 1-0, especially with the way our season’s gone with not many clean sheets.

“We got the second goal and I felt as if we were never going to lose it by then but we were still a bit slack.

“We picked it up towards the end and got the third and fourth in quick succession.”
