Wimbledon's Gen Z female players looking to win the championship
There are set to be a host of young players at this year. Many of the rising stars are set to take on some of the biggest names in the sport at the championship this week.
British tennis Emma Raducanu is one of the youngsters set to play at this year's tournament. She will be joined by three other female tennis-playing peers.
Here are the four female Gen Z tennis players you can expect to see gracing the Wimbledon courts over the next few weeks.
South London’s Raducanu has had a stellar year as her public profile spiked in September 2021 after winning the US Open. Following this, Emma has seen a stream of success as she has since been awarded an MBE earlier this year.
The 19-year-old is the second-youngest player at Wimbledon this year. She has also fronted the cover of British Vogue and has gone on to work with well-known brands including Nike, Tiffany & Co, and Dior.
Of Chinese and Romanian heritage, Emma was born in Canada but moved to London with her parents as a toddler, aged two. Despite Raducanu’s confidence on the tennis court, she has shared that she wasn’t always this way. In a Vogue interview, the tennis champion said: “I was a very shy little girl who didn’t talk much at all."
‘‘And through playing sport and having to be bold on the court and fearless and fight, it’s given me inner strength. If you have that, then you can really achieve whatever you want.”
Dart, 25, hails from Hampstead, in north London, and has a career-high ranking of world number 94. One of her career highlights includes reaching the world top-100, after she reached number 94 in the WTA rankings.
