Willie Collum plays Europa League catch-up with ONE SHOE as referee gets himself in a pickle

Willie Collum is taking his officiating to the heights of European competition, with just one shoe on as well.

The Scottish whistler was involved as Sporting Lisbon and Sturm Graz battled it out in the Europa League, with the Portuguese side coming out on top by a commanding three goals to nil at the Estádio José Alvalade. Collum is a regular feature on the continental scene while being one of the most experienced referees in the Scottish Premiership, and while we're all a fan of a referee being the pantomime villain, the 44-year-old turned in to the joker when his boot slipped off during the game as he fell.

But like a true pro the referee just grabbed his Adidas right boot and decided to charge forward as Lisbon attacked with his socks slipping across the surface as he ran. It was a moment captured by fans on X with even Sporting supporters sharing the clip with the caption: "Today's best," while another account posted: “'I wonder how Willie Collum is getting along refereeing Sporting Lisbon v Sturm Graz tonight.'”

Collum continued the game as scheduled, and he was joined by Kevin Clancy as fourth official. Frank Connor and David McGeachie lead a full Scotland officiating team with well known Video Assistant Referee Stuart Attwell from England and Assistant VAR Cătălin Popa from Romania helping with decisions.
