Will Fish weighs up Hibs and Manchester United future as defender keen on fulfilling European dream

Will Fish has enjoyed more lavish European nights watching Manchester United than he can remember.

But the opportunity to get a taste of one for real - albeit not at the top table - with Hibs might just convince the on-loan United defender to ditch Old Trafford for good this summer. Fish’s future remains up in the air just like Hibs’ Euro hopes with five games of the season remaining. Boss Lee Johnson is understood to be keen to keep the 20-year-old beyond the summer. And whether that’s on another loan or a permanent deal, Fish, who is contracted to the Premier League giants until 2025, admits a shot at continental football might just sway his decision.

He said: "Yeah, definitely. It would be amazing to play for a club like this in Europe. I’m solely focusing on the next five games and people behind the scenes can work on my future and we'll see what happens at the end of the season. It's a different end of the scale but obviously European nights are great and anthems you hear before the games, the culture of the night. It would be amazing but I don't know what's happening yet.

“My favourite Euro night? There's a lot. I couldn't pinpoint one. But when you hear the Champions League anthem before the game, you get that tingling feeling. Everyone wants to play on the biggest stage.”

Easter Road might not quite be the Champions League but Fish admits he’s had his eyes opened by the size of Hibs after arriving on loan on deadline day last summer.

It’s given him a burning desire to continue playing first team football and not return to the reserves at Old Trafford - even if it’s not all been plane sailing.
