Erik ten Hag will show his plan for Manchester United with contract decisions on five players

Manchester United will reshape and remodel under Erik ten Hag and the current contract status of the first-team squad reflects the potential changing of the guard.

The Reds are targeting a striker and a central midfielder as part of their summer transfer plans. Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his squad as he seeks to close the gap at the top of the Premier League table.

The Dutchman has enjoyed a largely successful season in his debut campaign at Old Trafford and will continue to put his own stamp on the squad. The arrivals of Lisandro Martinez and Antony last summer showed the changing of a guard at United as Ten Hag starts to bring in his personnel.

There is likely to be several departures this summer with a clutch of players leaving on a free transfer as their contracts run down. Phil Jones is leaving and Axel Tuanzebe is also set to move on, while the club must make a decision on number two goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Loanees Wout Weghorst, Marcel Sabitzer and Jack Butland all look set to leave United as well.

United are in talks with David de Gea over a new deal while they have eight senior players about to enter the final year of their contracts. Marcus Rashford is by far the biggest name on the list and talks with the England international will be a priority over the coming weeks to try and ensure the 25-year-old, who has enjoyed a superb season, remains a part of the Ten Hag rebuild.

Elsewhere, the decisions taken on the futures of the other players in their final 12 months of deals will say a lot about how Ten Hag is shaping his squad. None of Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof, Fred, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bisska are certain starters and it's feasible any or all of the quintet could be sold this summer while
