Will Fish to Hibs transfer latest as Man United leave defender behind in Edinburgh to seal Easter Road return

Manchester United have parted ways with Will Fish in Edinburgh as he closes in on a return to Hibs.

Fish was an important player for Lee Johnson last season and the Easter Road boss has been open about his desire to bring him back for next season. But United have been reluctant to let him go so far and he played 45 minutes of their friendly with Lyon at Murrayfield, with Erik ten Hag holding onto him to play his part in that fixture.

But United will jet out to the US this week and a number of their box office stars who didn't travel to Edinburgh, including Bruno Fernandes, captain Harry Maguire and new signing Mason Mount, are set to join up with the group for the trip Stateside. They announced their final 31-player group boarding the plane and Fish wasn't among them.

Instead he's been left in the UK and is expected for talks at Easter Road imminently and has been in constant dialogue with Johnson throughout the break. The boss has been open about his desire to re-sign him.

He said: "We’re still looking to get Will through. Obviously he’s a Manchester United player but we’re here, waiting, and ready. We’re in constant contact with Will and United but their needs come first at the moment in terms of their pre-season fixtures but we hope to get him here as soon as possible."
