Wilfred Ndidi to Celtic transfer hurdle as Brendan Rodgers spending power tested by mega money Saudi Arabia offer

Brendan Rodgers has reportedly made Wilfred Ndidi one of his top targets after his return to Celtic.

But the incoming Parkhead boss won't have an easy task in securing a reunion with the Leicester City midfielder in Glasgow's east end with the riches of the Saudi Pro League potential tempting Ndidi this summer. Parkhead majority shareholder Dermot Desmond promised Rodgers a bumper transfer kitty following his return to Celtic Park to help the Irishman build a squad capable of making a mark on the Champions League group stage this term.

Ndidi would fit the profile of player Rodgers is looking for his Euro charge - with the 26-year-old lifting the Premier League and FA Cup during his time with the Foxes, as well as coming with a pedigree on the continent having competed in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. However, Desmond's spending power is set to be put the test by Saudi club Al Shabab.

Club president Khalid Al-Baltan is looking to join the big-spending clubs in the Middle East and return the club to the top of the Pro League - with the 6-time champions having gone without a title win for the last 11 years. Former Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier is the favourite to take over a boss this summer - and the club reportedly want Ndidi as his first signing.

Nigerian outlet Punch Sports report that Al Shabab are ready to submit an "irresistible offer" to tempt the defensive midfielder to dump European football for Asia while noting Celtic are in the running for a deal. It has been claimed that the Riyadh side have "already made contact" with Ndidi's representatives.
