Wigan set to hand out several debuts after naming squad for Super League opener

Cade Cust, Kaide Ellis, Patrick Mago and Abbas Miski could all make their competitive debuts for Wigan Warriors on Friday after all four were named in Matty Peet's 21-man squad for the Super League opener against Hull KR.

Peet has a near clean bill of health in his squad for his first competitive match in charge of the club, with only Bevan French and Ethan Havard unavailable. Havard is recovering from injury, while French is due to return to the country this week following the death of his mother.

But having missed their pre-season friendlies, Zak Hardaker is named in the 21-man squad after returning to full-contact training.

That leaves Peet with a number of selection dilemmas, with Hardaker likely to be in direct competition with Jai Field for the fullback role.

Cust is likely to debut in the halves alongside captain Thomas Leuluai, while Ellis, Mago and Miski are all in contention to be named in Peet's first 17-man squad as a Super League coach.

Iain Thornley is also named ahead of a second competitive debut for the club.
