Wigan’s Max Power sends message to Sunderland individual ahead of League One play-off final

Sunderland are 90 minutes away from a Championship return as they prepare to face Wycombe Wanderers in this afternoon’s League One play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

Alex Neil’s side are looking to end a four year stay in the third-tier, but face a tricky hurdle in Wycombe, who defeated MK Dons in the semi-final stage of the play-offs.

As you can imagine, social media has been rife with messages of support for the Black Cats, including a classy message from Max Power, who has booked his place in the Championship next season after automatic promotion with Wigan Athletic.

He took to Twitter to send his former club a supportive message, with particular direction at right-back Lynden Gooch.

Good luck to everyone at @SunderlandAFC today especially this man @LyndenGooch He’s been through absolutely everything at the club and deserves success! The definition of a team player. Go get another winner at Wembley! pic.twitter.com/JMcumOjTBb

Power played for Sunderland between 2018 and 2021, with the midfielder starting the 2019 League One play-off final, albeit lasting just nine minutes before he was forced off in the 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic.

This season, the 28-year-old has starred for Wigan in League One, registering 12 assists and helping the Latics to the title on their way to promotion.

Sunderland v Wycombe kicks off at 3pm, with the winner set to join Wigan and Rotherham United back in the Championship.

Amongst that will be a number of the club’s former players, Power included.
