Wigan expecting to face Will Pryce in Challenge Cup final

Wigan coach Matt Peet says he is expecting his side to face Huddersfield star Will Pryce in Saturday’s Challenge Cup final.

The exciting 19-year-old has been out for more than two months through suspension. However, his 10-match ban is up just in time for Saturday’s Challenge Cup final.

Pryce could be thrown back into the deep end this weekend as the Giants sweat on the fitness of regular half-back pair Theo Fages and Olly Russell.

Huddersfield coach Ian Watson says he expects Fages to pull through in time for Saturday. Russell, meanwhile, had scans on Monday to determine the extend of the hamstring injury he picked up against Toulouse last week.

Watson can call upon Australian half-back Jack Cogger, who kicked a match-winning drop goal against Toulouse.

It would be an enormous task for Pryce if thrown back in against Wigan in the final at Spurs.

“I do think Pryce will play,” Peet said. “But you know whoever plays, they are all very good players.

“One thing about Huddersfield is that, regardless of who they have got in, they’re very well organised.

“They’re a well-drilled side who know the systems well. It would be pretty steady whoever they go with.

“It’s not a week where massive individuals matter, which is a big compliment to Ian and his team. We’ll concentrate on ourselves.”

Watson says he would not hesitate to play Pryce on Saturday if needed.

He said: “I’ve got no problems with throwing young Will in. He’s a great character and has a good head on his shoulders.

“If he has to come in and cover for someone he will do a real good job.

“He’s trained with us this morning and looked outstanding. He’s jumping and chomping at the bit to play.”
