Why Wolves are not playing Premier League football this weekend
Bruno Lage and his Wolverhampton Wanderers side now face a 13 day wait until they are back in Premier League action against Burnley, after a disappointing loss to Newcastle United on Friday severely damaged their hopes of European football.
Lage's side will travel to Turf Moor to face a Sean Dyche side battling relegation in just under two weeks due to a fixture postponement regarding their clash with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side.
A statement from Manchester City regarding the postponing of the game read: "Our away games against Wolves and Leeds United have both been moved, whilst a date has also been confirmed for our home clash with Brighton and Hove Albion which was postponed due to our participation in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
"Pep Guardiola’s men were due to face Wolves on Saturday 16 April. This game is now set to take place the following day, with a kick-off time of 16:30 (UK), but is subject to change should we reach the last four of the FA Cup."
City beat Southampton 4-1 in the FA Cup quarter-finals and will now face Liverpool in the semi-finals on April 16, the date that Wolves were scheduled to face Guardiola's side.
The rearranged date for the clash is yet to be confirmed but what is clear is that Lage's side could play a major role in the current race for the Premier League title, given the fact they face both City and Liverpool in the final stages of the campaign this season.
