'Why we signed him' - Ian Evatt's praise for Bolton Wanderers goalscorer Kyle Dempsey

Ian Evatt believes the two goals that Kyle Dempsey scored against Wycombe is exactly why Bolton Wanderers bought the midfielder as he demonstrated his quality in the victory.

The Whites took the lead in the first half of the 3-0 victory when Dempsey finished to give Wanderers the advantage following good work from Liverpool loanee Conor Bradley. They doubled their lead just before the break when Aaron Morley slotted home from Dapo Afolayan's pass.

Dempsey added his second after the break as Wanderers ran out worthy 3-0 winners. It leaves the Whites third in the League One table after two matches so far.

Dempsey had a limited time on the pitch following his deadline day move in January from Gillingham owing to injuires. It restricted his time on the pitch but he has come back raring to go for the new campaign.

And the performance against the Chairboys was an illustration of why Wanderers brought the midfielder to the University of Bolton Stadium, Evatt said. Dempsey is part of a competitive and diverse squad at Wanderers which gives the Bolton boss the options to change his system depending on the encounter they have in front of them.

He said: “That’s why we signed him because we know he gives us that goalscoring prowess from midfield. We know he can make those forward runs. He’s energetic, he can handle the ball, he’s a good player but I’ve got loads of good players and it’s about selecting the right team for the right challenges.
