Why two more Manchester United players are surprise absentees vs Tottenham

Leny Yoro and Christian Eriksen are missing from Manchester United's squad to face Tottenham on Sunday through illness, adding to Ruben Amorim's woes after a nightmare week for the head coach.

The teenage centre-back and the Danish midfielder are the latest senior players to drop out of contention for a crucial Premier League fixture, leaving Amorim down to the bare bones.

The Portuguese has been forced to pick a bench with eight of the nine players yet to make their debuts for the club. Centre-back Victor Lindelof is the only player with first-team experience amomgst the replacements and he hasn't played for United since mid-December.

Goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton remain sidelined through injury, with Elyh Harrison named as the substitute goalkeeper. The 18-year-old spent the first half of this season on loan with National League North outfit Chester City.

Four players have picked up injuries this week. Amad's ankle injury will likely rule him out for the rest of the season, as confirmed by Amorim before the Spurs game, while midfielders Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer have picked up muscular injuries. Manuel Ugarte is absent with a knock.

They join Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount, who were already sidelined through injury.

The outfield subs against Tottenham who could be in for a debut today are Ayden Heaven, Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson, Sekou Kone, Jack Fletcher, Jack Moorhouse and Chido Obi.
