Why Tottenham allowed Sergio Reguilon to join Manchester United after impressive start to loan

Sergio Reguilon's move to Manchester United on summer transfer window deadline day from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur certainly raised a few eyebrows.

The former Real Madrid and Sevilla player had fallen out of favour in north London but has hit the ground running at United. He has looked bright in appearances against Brighton, Bayern Munich and Burnley and so far the move looks like it could be an astute piece of business by the Reds as they aim to build on a successful first season under manager Erik ten Hag.

And Reguilon has already impressed his new boss, who said he's 'very happy' with the left-back following the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich. "We're very happy with him and it is not easy to [be] coming in [to] a team you don't know," Ten Hag told MUTV. "And there was less preparation.

"Of course, he's experienced. [A] very good base he has but then still to know our rules and we didn't have the time to teach them, to coach them in training or in the preparation time in like a pre-season. But he had to go straight in and he did well." The defender already appears to be a good fit, claiming he shares the same 'philosophy' as his new manager.

"He wanted me to come and I wanted to come here too," he told United's official site. "It was all very easy. Now I am here and we have been speaking in training about what he wants from his left-back. I think we share the same philosophy. He likes hard workers and I love working hard, I think we're on exactly the same page."
