Why the international break could help Erik ten Hag keep his Manchester United promise

Manchester United haven’t exactly had the best start to their season, but injuries haven't helped matters.

United recently issued an injury update on Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund, who both hobbled off in United’s 1-0 win over Luton last weekend. The club confirmed both players will not be jetting off for international duty as a result of their respective knocks.

Hojlund’s injury looked to be less severe than Eriksen's, with the striker hopefully set to be in contention for the Reds' return to action against Everton on November 26 before the vital Champions League fixture against Galatasaray. However, Eriksen is set to be out of action for around a month.

Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw are just a handful of the players currently on United’s injury list, and the number of first-team players out of action is undoubtedly hampering United's attempts to find form.

The international break may have come at the perfect time for Ten Hag, allowing his players time to work on their recovery without missing important games.

Fixtures are set to come thick and fast for United after the break, with a trip to Goodison Park followed by a must-win game in Turkey against Galatasaray. If the Reds lose this fixture, they will be out of the Champions League.

Ten Hag has previously insisted that United belong in the Champions League, though their return to Europe's premier club competition will be over if they fail to beat Galatasaray.
